Frequently asked questions
Questions we answer before the first site visit.
If your question isn't here, send it through the contact page or call (403) 803-6302.
Service area & company
Where do you work?
We're based in Alberta and work with commercial, multi-family, industrial, and institutional properties across Canada. Project delivery and service arrangements are confirmed for each location and portfolio.
How can we confirm procurement requirements?
Contact REM with your licensing, insurance, certification, and vendor-onboarding requirements. We will review the requirements for your scope and location and coordinate the applicable documentation.
What brands and platforms do you support?
We work across multiple commercial platforms and only accept systems we're prepared to support for the long term. Tell us what you currently use and we'll confirm whether it is a fit before proposing work.
Procurement & process
How does an engagement start?
With a site assessment. We document your existing systems, risks, and priorities, then deliver a written picture with options and phasing. From there: design, transparent pricing, coordination, installation, commissioning, and a documented handoff. The full process is on our homepage.
Can you respond to RFPs and formal tenders?
Yes. We regularly price to specifications and provide submittals, references, and compliance documentation. If a spec has conflicts or names discontinued products, we flag it in writing rather than pricing around it silently.
Will you review drawings or specs for a project still in design?
Yes, and it's the cheapest time to involve us. Send drawings by email using the drawing review request. We review for conflicts, scope gaps, serviceability problems, and products that will be unsupportable by the time the building opens.
Do you publish pricing?
No, because honest pricing depends on the building. Door hardware, cable paths, existing infrastructure, and code requirements change the number. What we do publish is our commitment: written scope, options priced separately, and no surprise extras for conditions we could have assessed up front.
Maintenance & support
What's included in a maintenance plan?
Scheduled inspections, device-by-device checks, service reports after every visit, asset records, remote support, and defined response tiers. Details on the Maintenance & Support page. Plans are scoped per building; there's no one-size package.
What happens when something fails after hours?
Call (403) 803-6302, any hour. Intake is captured 24/7, emergencies are triaged and escalated to an on-call technician, and you get confirmation and an ETA rather than a voicemail void. Response arrangements are confirmed for your site and service agreement.
Can you maintain a system that another company installed?
Usually. We start by auditing and documenting the existing system: what's proprietary, what's healthy, what's at risk. If we can support it, you get a maintenance proposal; if we can't, you get a straight answer and options.
Our building has no documentation for its systems. Is that fixable?
Yes. Documentation cleanup is a standard REM engagement: we trace, label, photograph, and record what exists, and hand you an asset record and as-built package. Every future service call gets faster from that day on.
Smart buildings & technology
Can smart-building features be added to an older building?
Almost always. Remote access, leak detection, intercom-to-phone, centralized controls, and operational dashboards are routinely retrofitted. Existing electrical capacity and network infrastructure are assessed before anything is proposed.
Will new systems integrate with our property-management software?
That depends on your platform, and we treat it as a design requirement rather than an afterthought. Tell us what you run and we'll confirm what's supported before anything is proposed.
Planning your engagement
What will we receive before committing?
A written assessment of your building, a defined scope, and pricing with options and exclusions. Commissioning, documentation, and support requirements are established before work begins.
